Thursday night in New Boston, Texas, hundreds remember the life of a teen killed in an accidental shooting.

A candlelight vigil was held for 17-year-old Semaj Williams.

Family, friends, classmates, and teammates all came to honor Williams.

The ceremony began with a welcome from New Boston High School Principal, Brian Bobbitt.

After a brief prayer by Coach Buddy Ray, Pastor Monte Young said a few words.

He spoke about how the community needs strength during this tough time.

Young added that it might be a tragic situation, but the town of New Boston has come together as one.

At the end of the ceremony, the crowd lit candles, while singing Amazing Grace and This Little Light of Mine.

Resident, Eric Cowley, says it was important for his family to be here.

"It's just a tragic thing that happened last night and we just want to show our love once again to the family. New Boston is a small town, just a close knit community and this really hurt a lot of people."

Williams was a member of the football team at New Boston High School.

He would have been a senior this year.
