2013 Top Story: Cole Vosbury on "The Voice"

From the LA in the south, to the L.A. on the west coast. Singer Cole Vosbury made a name for himself and put Shreveport back on the musical map, by becoming a semi-finalist on NBC’s The Voice.

His voice was already known to people in the Shreveport area, but in September of 2013, Cole Vosbury shared his vocal ability with rest of the world.

The shy 22-year-old came out of his shell to audition for NBC 6's The Voice.

His rendition of "Movin' On Up" grabbed judge CeeLo Green by the ears.

"If anyone else had turned around besides CeeLo, I would've picked him anyways," says CeeLo.

After watching the “knock out” and “battle rounds” with family and friends in Shreveport, Cole went back to Los Angeles to continue competing.

He was stolen from team CeeLo by country star Blake Shelton.

Then America pushed him into the Top 12 by sparing him with the Twitter Instant Save.

"Scared to death, excited and just really having the feeling that he was going to do it, but you know, you always have that doubt in your mind and that's how I felt," says Lori Vosbury, Cole's mom. "But I was excited and scared."

Week after week, with his beard, long hair and fedora, Cole sang his way into hearts across America.

Touching on all different genres, he performed songs like "Maggie May" by Rod Stewart, “Adorn" by Miguel, "Rich Girl" by Hall and Oates and "Shameless" by Billy Joel.

Many of those songs, landing in top spots on the iTunes charts, and friends and family in Shreveport were behind him the whole way.

"I've just been praying for Cole, and I just know that God is looking after him and taking care of him, and I just thank God,” says Linda Raab, Cole’s grandmother. “I'm just so excited."

Cole also gained Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover as a fan.

"To see him now, paired up with Blake Shelton, and continuing to be able to put on a display for the entirety of the world to see the great talent that he honed right here in Shreveport, I'm humbled to be able to see it, very excited for him, and looking forward to ultimately seeing him crowned The Voice of 2013."

After weeks of relentless rehearsals and constant competition, Cole made it to the Top 5 by performing "Shameless."

But that was his last song. Cole didn't get enough votes to continue.

"I wasn't meant to win, that's just...that's been set in the stars,” says Cole. “Me making Top 5 and going home Top 5 has been set in the stars."

After returning back to Shreveport, Cole says his music career is only beginning.

“So, I've been trying to write, put an album together, get a good booking agent, put together some good shows,” says Cole.

Blake Shelton has helped him make connections in the music industry and now Cole is looking to move to Nashville.

No matter where he goes, 2013 won't be the last time you hear from Cole Vosbury.

Before leaving Shreveport, Cole will perform the National Anthem at the AdvoCare V100 Bowl on Tuesday, and he'll have a free concert for fans at Sam’s Town on Friday.
