The sixth annual "Stop the Violence 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament" is Friday and Saturday at the Bill Cockrell Community Center. Organizers said the tournament is critical to keeping the kids out of trouble during spring break.
45 teams have signed up. The players range from ages 9 to 50 years old. Coaches said the tournament gives area youth the chance to polish their skills but also learn team work, camaraderie and communication skills. For some, it’s an opportunity to see if they have what it takes to play college basketball.
The championship games start Saturday at 9 a.m. There will be a free throw contest and a three point contest at 11 a.m. Entry fee is $20. If you’d like to watch the games, admission is $2 for those 18 years old and under and $3 for adults.
