Getting blood work can be pricey.

However, there are local options that can help save you money and keep you healthy.

On Tuesday, the American Red Cross held their annual health fair.

For about $40, people got lab work done to test multiple things like Cholesterol and Glucose levels.

Kristen Taylor, the Regional Communications Director for the American Red Cross - Northwest LA Chapter, says the event grows each year.

About 500 people were expected at this year's event.

"It tells us that we're meeting a need in the community and that people really do want to focus on their health," said Taylor. "This is a great opportunity that's easy and affordable and they really like it."

The nursing staff consists of students from Northwestern College of Nursing to get hands on experience in real life situations.

"Everyone knows medical care is very expensive, even if you have insurance," said Taylor. "For those folks, $40 to get that basic bloodwork done or $50 to add the Prostate Screening, is a great, affordable option for their health."

The health fairs happen four times a year, the next one scheduled tentatively around September.
