A fire in a Southwest Shreveport apartment complex today ravaged one unit and damaged two adjacent units, but the family of one adult and six children who lived in the damaged unit were not at home at the time of the fire.

The family had left their apartment at Kingston Village Apartments to celebrate the birthday of one of the children at Chucky Cheese in Bossier City, according to apartment resident, Shauntierra O’Guin.

According Shreveport Fire Department Chief Safety Officer Scott Wolverton, the fire broke out in one of the bedrooms in the second floor apartment, but spread throughout the unit.

Although the apartment in which the blaze originated will displace the family, adjacent apartments sustained some smoke damage, but are liveable, Wolverton said.

NBC 6 News is on the scene and will bring details tonight on NBC 6 News...Reported by Danielle Barber
