Arrest made in early March shooting

Shreveport Police this morning arrested a local man in connection with a shooting that sent another man to the hospital earlier this month.

Shreveport Police this morning arrested a local man in connection with a shooting that sent another man to the hospital earlier this month.

Trey Hart, 21, of the 3100 block of Bert Kouns Industrial Loop, was taken into police custody this morning after evidence linked him to the early March shooting of 19-year-old Ron Douglas.

SPD officers were dispatched on March 6 to University Health Medical Center regarding Douglas, who arrived at the hospital’s emergency room suffering a single gunshot wound to the leg.

Douglas, along with a group of his associates, initially provided officers with information suggesting Douglas had been shot while standing outside a home located in the 1500 block of West 58th Street.

Allegations were that a dark colored, four-door sedan occupied by three males, drove up and starting firing at Douglas before fleeing the scene.

A subsequent investigation, launched by Shreveport Police Violent Crimes detectives gathered information that determined Douglas and his associates had fabricated their statements to authorities and that Douglas had actually been shot accidentally by a friend.

Hart allegedly was in possession of a weapon that accidentally discharged striking Douglas.  Following Hart’s arrest, he was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on charges of Illegal Use of a Weapon.  The investigation is still underway.
