Bench warrant issued for return of convicted murderer to East Texas

A man who gunned down his elderly girlfriend in a fit of rage nearly 20 years ago is back in Panola Co.
A man who gunned down his elderly girlfriend in a fit of rage nearly 20 years ago is back in Panola Co.

On Tuesday Bernie Tiede, 55,  was transported to the Panola Co. Detention Center after a bench warrant was issued for him to leave the Telford TDC unit in New Boston.

The bench warrant was issued on Friday, Jan. 17  by District Judge Charles "Brick" Dickerson.

Tiede, shot Marjorie Nugent four times in the back with a rifle back in Nov. 1996 at her home in Carthage. He then placed Nugent's body in a freezer and sealed the freezer with duct tape.

Meanwhile, there is no word on how long Tiede will be in Panola Co.  or why the bench warrant was issued.
