Bossier addressing Airline Drive traffic concerns

Bossier City has broken ground on Kroger Marketplace relief road. Parish purchasing land for relief road near Sam's Club.
A traffic headache on Airline Drive in Bossier City could become a migraine in the upcoming years as two large retail stores will be added to the already busy I-220 corridor.

Sam's Club will open its location north of I-220 on August 14th and Kroger Marketplace will add a 124,000 square foot store south of I-220 on Airline Drive in 2015 or 2016.

Mark Natale, Bossier City spokesman says Phase 1 of an almost 9-million dollar traffic relief project is underway with the construction of George Dement Boulevard. The Boulevard and other roads that will be constructed in Phase 2 will alleviate congestion near the Kroger location and allow traffic arriving from the east to bypass Airline Drive completely.

"Once Kroger's up and running it's going to be a high traffic area and we're hoping this relief road and configuring the George Dement and hooking it up with the other roads is going to be beneficial to motorists," says Natale.

Plans for traffic relief near the Sam's Club are still in the identification phase. The parish is currently purchasing land with the idea they will connect a relief corridor to Swan Lake Road in the future.
