Bossier has busy first week of school planned

Bossier Parish students will be heading back to school Thursday, but several events are planned prior to the ringing of the she bell. Below are a list of events that will be held beginning Sunday.

Sunday, August 3

Bossier High School’s Open House

 

Bossier High School will hold its annual Open House for new and returning students  from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at 777 Bearcat Drive. Theme for the 2014-15 school year is “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work.”

 

Students will receive their class schedules for the new school year and class information, school supply lists, be able to sign up for sports and student clubs and purchase school spirit shirts.

 

Monday, August 4

 

School bus driver in service

 

The Bossier Parish School’s bus driver in-service will be held at 8 a.m. Monday in the Bossier High School Auditorium, 777 Bearkat Drive.  

 

Former Bossier School Board member, state Rep.Henry Burns, will address approximately 400 Bossier bus drivers, aides, paraprofessionals and substitutes. He will explain Act 654 (R.S. 17:158(J) and 3996(B)(34) relative to the loading and unloading of school buses), which was House Bill 600, signed into law by Gov. Bobby Jindal in June.  

 

Burns will explain the law as it relates to changes dictating how children are be picked up and dropped off at bus stops, although Bossier Schools already are in compliance with this law.  

 

Thursday, August 7

 

First Day of School

 

The first day of the 2014-15 school year will be at 7:15 to 8 a.m. Thursday for grades 1-12 in all Bossier Parish schools. It will be a full day. Kindergarten students will begin a week later on August 14.

 

Bossier School Board Meeting

 

The first Bossier Parish School Board meeting of the 2014-15 school year will be held at 6 p.m. at Bossier Instructional Center, 2719 Airline Drive.  Recognitions will include  honoring Dr. Anita Szombathelyi, Louisiana High School Teacher of the Year; Benton Elementary’s World Championship Archery Team; Military Student Transition Consultant Georgette Price receiving the Military Child Education Coalition’s 2014 Pete Taylor Partnership of Excellence Award; along with other accomplishments by Bossier
