Shreveport Police detectives have charged a Texas man in connection with the armed robbery of a Shreveport woman that occurred earlier this week.
On April 13, 2014, Shreveport Police was called to the 9500 block of Ellerbe Road relative to an armed robbery of an individual.
When officers arrived, the victim told them she had just been robbed by a male suspect, armed with a handgun.
The woman then told them that after pulling into the parking lot of a business at the intersection of Ellerbe Road and Flournoy-Lucas Road, she says she was approached by a man who tried to talk to her.
The woman described the suspect as a male, approximately five feet ten inches to six feet tall and weighing roughly 160 pounds.
He allegedly showed the woman a handgun and demanded she hand over her valuables.
A subsequent struggle with the victim and the suspect over the gun ensued, at which point the suspect successfully overpowered the victim and stole the woman’s purse.
Upon taking the victim’s purse, the suspect, who was last seen driving a dark colored pickup truck, reportedly fled from the scene, firing a single shot into the woman’s tire disabling her vehicle.
The woman escaped injury in the incident.
Since the robbery, authorities have been working to determine whether a Texas man arrested Monday morning was linked to the incident.
Yesterday, authorities received their answer after several items stolen from the woman during the armed robbery were located inside the vehicle that was driven by 46-year-old Terry Leroy Smith of Spring, Texas.
Smith was arrested Monday morning in Caddo Parish, after he led law enforcement officers from multiple jurisdictions on a high speed chase.
Following his arrest, the vehicle used during his failed attempts to evade capture was seized and subsequently searched with a warrant procured by Shreveport Police detectives.
Detectives have now charged Smith with a single count of armed robbery in addition to an unrelated theft charge.
Smith remains under a guarded hospital stay as a result of injuries he sustained during his attempts to flee from officers.
