A man suspected of committing a carjacking nearly a year ago is now in police custody thanks in part to DNA evidence.

The incident happened back on September 14, 2013 in the 200 block of Spring St.

Officers found an adult male victim unconscious suffering multiple head injuries.

Investigators learned the victim had been assaulted by a group of males who stole his 2008 Toyota Tundra. The victim was treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Evidence gathered from the stolen truck was collected and submitted to the North Louisiana Crime Lab for processing.

SPD Robbery detectives were later notified the DNA evidence recovered from the vehicle had been matched to 34-year-old Shawn Swift.
On Monday Swift was taken into custody without incident in the 2500 block of Youree Dr.

Swift was booked into the Shreveport City Jail and charged with a single count of carjacking.
