A local man is behind bars at Caddo Correctional Center, thanks to citizens’ tips after surveillance video was released to the local media.

Based on those tips, information was gathered leading to the arrest of 34-year-old Demarcus Burns, who is charged with simple burglary.

Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Drive on July 16 relative to a reported burglary at Kings Grocery.

On their arrival, officers contacted owners of the Kings Grocery and told them their business had been burglarized and thousands of dollars in merchandise had been removed.

Authorities recovered surveillance video from the store, which captured two men forcefully entering the business and taking items. That video surveillance was submitted to the local media and after it aired, numerous Crime Stoppers tips began to come in.

Based on those tips, information was gathered linking Burns to the crime. SPD  detectives located Burns at a residence in the 1600 block of Hersy D. Wilson Drive, where he was taken into police custody without incident.

Burns was transported to Shreveport Police headquarters where he was interviewed by detectives. Following subsequent interviews, Burns was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on charges of Simple burglary.

He is now at CCC being held on a $20,000 bond.
