Runnin’ WJ Ranch’s fourth annual Cutting for a Cause began this morning and will continue until 9 tonight, and will continue 9 a.m. though 9 p.m.Saturday at the Four States Fairgrounds arena.

Cutting is a sport in which the rider uses a specially-trained horse to separate an individual calf from a herd or cattle. The horse and rider are judged on their ability to keep the calf separated from the herd.

Founded in 2001, Runnin’ WJ provides a therapeutic horseback riding program for children and adults with special needs in the greater Texarkana area. . Proceeds from the event will go toward scholarships for poverty-level children.

Last year’s event raised $30,000 and organizers hope to raise at least that amount this month.

The community is invited to attend the event. Admission is free.
