DHH Confirms 13 New West Nile Virus Cases

This week, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals confirmed 13 new cases of West Nile virus, of which five were neuroinvasive disease infections, bringing this year's total to 42 reported cases.
This week, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals  confirmed 13 new cases of West Nile virus, of which five were neuroinvasive disease infections, bringing this year's total to 42 reported cases.

This week's new infections include three neuroinvasive disease cases in Caddo Parish, two in East Baton Rouge Parish and one in Livingston Parish.

There were also four cases of West Nile fever reported in Caddo Parish, one in Calcasieu Parish and one in East Baton Rouge Parish.

There is also one asymptomatic case in Ascension Parish and one in East Baton Rouge Parish.

DHH State Epidemiologist Dr. Raoult Ratard said, "People should always be on guard around mosquitoes. As long as mosquitoes are biting, we are all at risk. In previous years, we've had West Nile virus cases as late as December, so don't let your guard down."
