A Spring, Texas man led law enforcement officers from three agencies on a pursuit that ended in gunfire early Monday morning.
It all started around 1:00am when DeSoto Sheriff Deputies were alerted to a suspicious vehicle at a well site on Highway 510 east of Mansfield.
When deputies encountered Terry Leroy Smith, he fled in a stolen Dodge pickup.
Smith was pursued by DeSoto deputies briefly into Red River Parish.
Caddo sheriff deputies and Shreveport Police joined in the efforts when Smith entered Caddo Parish.
Deputies and officers used spike strips to disable the front tires of Smith's truck, but he continued to flee down Youree Drive, driving on the tire rims in the oncoming lane of traffic.
Deputies and officers pursued Smith through downtown, into north Shreveport and onto Highway 1 North where he abandoned his truck in the 5600 block.
Smith ran from his vehicle, pursued by a K9 and fell on the grass.
When he rolled over and sat up, he was armed with a loaded handgun and pointed it at deputies and officers.
Two deputies, one from Caddo and one from DeSoto, fired at Smith.
He was hit in the foot and leg with non-life threatening injuries.
Smith was taken to University Health Center by Fire District #1 for treatment.
It hasn't been determined who fired the shots that struck Smith.
Smith is also under investigation for several other criminal offenses that occurred overnight in Shreveport and Bossier City.
