A new plan is unveiled to boost business in north Louisiana.

On Wednesday, the North Louisiana Economic Partnership group discussed ways to grow the economy over the next five years.

A major part of the plan includes creating a program to develop, attract and keep businesses in the area.

NLEP plans to go pursue companies in transportation, industrial machinery, fabricated metals and petrochemicals.

"I think there are a lot of great things going on in this region that everybody needs to toot their horns about it,” says Tom Stellman, a consultant with TIP Strategies, Inc. “I think there's a big opportunity for everyone to step up and be a marketer and advocate for the good things that are happening here."

To help fund the plan, NLEP is launching a new investment campaign called Regional Works 1.5.

The group says almost 170 investors contribute approximately $1 million annually for its economic development efforts, but they'll need more money for the new strategic plan.
