ETBU softball sweeps Trinity in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Traveling down to San Antonio for a non-conference series, East Texas Baptist University swept Trinity University to move to 14-1 on the year, 13-2, and 2-1. Shelby Parker and Kelly Jo McLendon earned the wins for ETBU.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Traveling down to San Antonio for a non-conference series, East Texas Baptist University swept Trinity University to move to 14-1 on the year, 13-2, and 2-1.  Shelby Parker and Kelly Jo McLendon earned the wins for ETBU.

 

On the day Jayme Perez led the team with five hits, with one being a home run, and four RBI while scoring twice.  Sara Clements recorded three RBI and kept her hitting streak alive at 17 games.  Kayla Garcia added three RBI while Lacey Lindsey had two and Lacy Liles and Kaitlyn Hollingshead each had one RBI.

 

Game 1

ETBU 13, Trinity 2

Pounding out 14 hits for 13 runs in a five-inning game, Parker improved to 6-1 on the year recording three strikeouts.  Perez went 3-of-3 with four RBI and a home run to lead ETBU.  Clements, Lindsey, Garcia, and Maranda Westbrook all had two hits.  Recording two RBI were Clements and Westbrook while Garcia had three RBI.  Tawny Hank and Shelby Phillips both pitched in the fifth inning as Hank went 0.2 and Phillips finished out the game getting the final out.

 

ETBU started off the game with two runs in the first inning as Lindsey doubled down the left field line to bring in both runs.  Trinity tied the game at two in the bottom of the inning only to see ETBU had three in the top of the second.  With no outs, Perez stepped up and belted her second home run of the year with a three-run shot over the left centerfield fence.  Jessica Delgado and Maranda Westbrook both scored.

 

After a scoreless third inning, ETBU added five more runs in the fourth inning.  Perez singled in Maranda Westbrook for the first run as the second batter of the inning.  Two batters later Clements singled up the middle scoring Lindsey Vasquez.  Garcia came to bat three batters later and tripled to left center field for two RBI brining in both Lindsey and Clements.  Garcia then scored on a Trinity error in Jessica Bowden’s at-bat for the fifth run of the inning. 

 

Runs 11,12, and 13 came in the fifth inning as ETBU took a 13-2 lead.  Clements had a double as Vasquez touched home plate and then Liles singled through the left side for the second run of the inning with Alyssa Romero coming in.  Lindsey was the final run to score as she was hit in on a Garcia single.

 

Game 2

ETBU 2, Trinity 1

It was a totally different game in the second game as ETBU held off Trinity for a 2-1 win.  McLendon went the entire seven innings recording seven strikeouts and no earned runs on seven scattered hits.  Perez led the team with two hits while Clements and Hollingshead had the RBI. 

 

ETBU would not score their first run until the third inning.  Clements was walked with the bases loaded for the first run in the game.  Then, in the fourth inning with two outs, Hollingshead singled to left field as Garcia rounded the bases for the second run of the game.  Trinity score their only run in the fifth inning on an ETBU error. 

 

ETBU will host LeTourneau University on Friday night at 5 p.m. in the first of three games of the ASC series.
