A Shreveport man has been indicted on first degree murder in the November 2013 death of a 13-month-old male.
A Caddo Parish grand jury this morning returned the indictment against Gerderrick Davis, 26, who was arrested Nov. 27 by Shreveport Police, after an investigation following a 1:30 a.m. EMS call to an apartment in the 3500 block of Milam.
Shreveport Fire Department personnel told police they responded to a medical call and found the 13-month-old toddler unconscious and unresponsive. SFD transported the little boy to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives and officials with the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office were notified and immediately began their investigation. Crime scene investigators processed the residence on Milam Street for any potential evidence as well.
Davis’ arrest was based on information and evidenced gathered during the course of the investigation. Davis, who allegedly living with the child’s mother at the Milam Street apartment, was charged with one count of second degree murder. Davis was booked into the Shreveport City Jail.
First degree murder is punishable by the death penalty or life in prison without possibility of parole, probation or suspension.
