Gold Medal Giver: Cindy Marrus

When volunteering, it's sometimes those behind the scenes who help make a difference.
When volunteering, it's sometimes those behind the scenes who help make a difference.

"I love volunteering, I think it's so important," said Cindy Marrus.

Two years ago, Marrus went to Robinson's Rescue to give a helping hand.

"It's very gratifying for me, something I've always done," Marrus said. "I've always volunteered, it's just a wonderful addition to my life."

Marrus says it's her favorite part of the week.

"She has a love of animals and she has a love for our mission," said Robinson's Rescue Director of Development Kristen Powers. "She really gets it and that helps a lot to have a volunteer who really plugs in and understands why we're doing what we're doing."

Every Tuesday, Marrus helps any way she can, mostly simple tasks like clean kennels, and help sterilize surgical tools.

"We do things the staff doesn't have time for," Marrus stated. "They can do their thing and we can keep it going to them behind the scenes."

The eye experience has been eye opening.

"It made me more aware of the problems on our streets with our strays," said Marrus. "Without us, who do they have? As important as it is to help the needy, we speak for the animals."

Those at Robinson's Rescue see Marrus' dedication.

"There's a lot of people out there that'll talk about the issue and I really appreciate people like Cindy who do something about it," said Powers. "We don't have any other way to pay them back, so doing something like this, recognizing Cindy as a Gold Medal Giver really is a great way to help her understand how much we appreciate her."

Which is why this week's Gold Medal Giver is Cindy Marrus.

Robinson's Rescue is a local spay and neuter clinic.

When we spoke with Marrus, we were told the Rescue had celebrated their 28,000 surgery.
