Golden Hurricanes rain on Tech's parade

Louisiana Tech fell short of the Conference USA title after the Dawgs shot 19% from the floor in the second half

EL PASO, TX - Louisiana Tech's NCAA tournament hopes likely slipped away after a 69-60 loss to Tulsa in the Conference USA tournament championship game.

The Dawgs appeared poised to win the tournament title after taking a 51-50 lead with less than eight minutes to play; but the boys from Ruston went frigid from the floor in the final minutes, shooting 19% from the field in the second half.

With the loss, Louisiana Tech's NCAA tournament fate rests in the hands of the selection committee, who will select the field of 68 on Sunday.

The last time the Louisiana Tech men's program made an NCAA tournament appearance was in 1991, capping a seven year-span that saw the program make five appearances in the dance between 1984-1991.

The program peaked in 1985. Behind eventual NBA Hall of Famer Karl Malone, the Bulldogs knocked off Pitt and Ohio State in the first two rounds, before falling to Oklahoma in the regional semifinal.
