History to be made with 2nd Bomb Wing change of command

A new commander will soon be leading the 2nd Bomb Wing at Barksdale Air Force Base and she'll be making history in the process. NBC 6 News has confirmed through officials at Barksdale Air Force Base that Colonel Kristin Goodwin has been named as the successor to Colonel Andy Gebara.
A new commander will soon be leading the 2nd Bomb Wing at Barksdale Air Force Base and she'll be making history in the process.

NBC 6 News has confirmed through officials at Barksdale Air Force Base that Colonel Kristin Goodwin has been named as the successor to Colonel Andy Gebara.

It is anticipated the official change of command will take place with in the coming weeks, but a firm date has yet to be set.

Col. Gebara has served as the head of  the Air Force Global Strike Command's B-52 fleet at Barksdale since May of 2012.

Col. Goodwin is currently the vice commander of the 509th Bomb Wing, at Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri.

In taking the helm at Barksdale, Col. Goodwin will be come the Air Force's first female to oversee all operations of a combat bomber wing.

Goodwin was promoted to the rank of Colonel in July of 2012. She has served the country for nearly 21 years in the Air Force.

According to Whiteman Air Force Base, as second in command, she assists the commander in keeping the nation's fleet of B-2's maintained and combat-ready.

It is not yet known by NBC 6 News where Col. Gebara will be stationed next within Air Force ranks.
