Jeff Thompson to run for District Court Judge

Jeff Thompson has announced that he will be a candidate during the Nov. 2014 elections for District Court Judge, Division B for the 26th Judicial District serving Bossier and Webster Parishes.
Jeff Thompson has announced that he will be a candidate during the Nov.  2014 elections for District Court Judge, Division B for the 26th Judicial District serving Bossier and Webster Parishes.

Current District Court Judge Ford Stinson has announced his retirement creating a vacancy in the office.

Thompson said, "After careful thought and consultation with my family, I have decided to declare my candidacy for District Court Judge. Public service is very important to me and I have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and encouragement to continue to serve our community as Judge."

Thompson currently serves as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives for District 08 and is the founder of Defend Louisiana, a pro second amendment rights organization. He has also served as President of the Bossier Chamber of Commerce; President of the Greater Bossier Economic Development Foundation; and is a current member of the Board of Directors of the Bossier Parish Community College Foundation where he has also served as President.

While serving as a member of the Committees on Education; Ways & Means; Homeland Security; and the Committee on Veterans and Military Affairs in the legislature he has authored legislation to protect gun owners, support our veterans, and protect children across Louisiana.

Thompson's efforts in the legislature have earned him numerous awards, including the Freshman Legislator Guardian of Small Business Award from the over 5,000 member National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB); the Legislator of the Yearfrom the Louisiana Shooting Association; and a two consecutive year recipient of theLegislator of the Year from the Louisiana State Police Association, among others. His lifetime voting record with LABI is currently 95% and he has been recognized by other pro-business organizations for his efforts.

Thompson is a 1988 graduate of Northeast Louisiana University, now ULM, and a 1995 honors graduate of Tulane University School of Law. He has served as President of the Bossier Parish Bar Association and as a member of the House of Delegates for the Louisiana State Bar Association. He and his wife Toni, and their children, Lillie and Rowe, reside in Benton, Louisiana.
