LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Centenary’s Jonathan Blount was named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week for his efforts this weekend against Texas Lutheran and Schreiner University.
Blount led Centenary to a pair of SCAC road wins over the weekend, moving the Gents to just a 1.5 games out of first place.
The senior averaged 20.5 points this weekend to move Centenary's win streak to three games and marked the first time since the 2003-04 season that the program has recorded 10 wins on Feb. 1.
Blount scored 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting including two three pointers to lead the Gents to a 78-71 win over Texas Lutheran in Seguin. He followed that up with a 19 point outing on 5-of-10 shooting and seven assists to lead Centenary to a huge win over second place Schreiner.
The Shreveport, La., native shot 50 percent from the field as well as from the three point line and was 85 percent from the charity stripe. Blount also moved into the top 15 in career scorers with 1,280 points which is tied for 14th.
Blount is a two-time recipient of the award this season joining Trinity’s Robert Kitzinger and Aaron Wyatt of Dallas. Ryan Milne stands as the only three-time winner of the accolade.
Centenary takes its three-game win streak into a six-game homestand beginning Tuesday, Feb. 4 against Austin College. Tip is slated for 6 p.m.
