While four Shreveport fire fighters were in Caddo District Court pleading guilty to principal to prostitution charges, the Shreveport detective who investigated the case was in a courtroom down the hall fighting to keep his job.
Rod Demery filed a petition in Caddo District Court to stop his abrupt transfer to night patrol, which he claimed came on the same day a new witness appeared in the ongoing Fire Station No. 8 scandal.
Demery, a homicide detective, was hand-picked by Shreveport Police Chief Willlie Shaw to investigate allegations of misconduct of Shreveport fire fighters at Station No. 8. The investigation led to criminal charges against and arrests of five five fighters in August 2013, as well as charges against the Shreveport Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chief in 2014.
The petition Demery filed was against Shaw individually and in his official capacity, and asked the Court to stop his transfer.
The Court, however, denied Demery’s petition. His attorney, Pam Breedlove, said Demery’s fight to keep his job is not over. She planned to file a letter asking for a hearing with the Civil Service Board Friday.
