Bakeries across the ArkLaTex have perfected their King Cake recipe.
NBC 6 News stopped by one to find out some of their secrets.
We had our cameras rolling at The Dough Basket as they prepared their traditional treat.
After flattening the dough, it's filled with whatever flavoring the customer wants.
At The Dough Basket they can fill it with just about anything, including a strawberry/cream cheese filling.
After it's risen and set, it'll go in the oven to bake.
It may sound easy enough, but takes time and patience.
Owner, Jessica Davidson, says the original King Cake is the way to go.
"Here at The Dough Basket, Mardi Gras is all about tradition, and we want to bring the traditional King Cake here to Shreveport and Bossier," said Davidson. "There are a lot of challenges with the King Cake. We worked on it for a couple weeks to get it perfect because we wanted to make sure the recipe allowed it to rise all of the way, and that it's nice and moist."
In addition to most flavors, they also make a King Cake Tower.
