Local group of faith holds presser

Locals rejoice to Louisiana House Bill 569 being signed
Northern and Central Louisiana Interfaith is hosted a Press Conference today at the Center for Families.

It was announce that they are pleased that the legislature passed HB 569 and they publicly commend them for this important piece of legislation.

Human trafficking is an issue in the Shreveport-Bossier community and they want to raise awareness about this modern day form of slavery. Adults and children have fallen prey to traffickers and are being held against their will. Those caught are treated as criminals and not victims with no possible means of escape.

However they are disappointed that the legislature did not pass meaningful reform on payday lending. A bill passed by Representative Erich Ponti requires all payday lenders to register with the state, including those online. They say this does not get at the debt trap but does bring attention to online lenders.
