The Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission held a special event for their volunteers.

Each year, the organization hosts an appreciation breakfast.

This year's theme: 'Cream of the Crop.'

The special event is held annually to thank those who help at the facility.

This year, about 100 volunteers were honored.

"It's a gift to have these volunteers and now it's our turn to give back to them," said Donor and Volunteer Relations Manager, Sarah Ardis. "It means a lot to our guests because it basically shows them that there are people out there that care and love them and expect nothing back in return. A lot of times our guests haven't had those types of relationships."

The Rescue Mission averages about 650 volunteers a month.

Here at NBC 6 News, we recognize local volunteers around the ArkLaTex as Gold Medal Givers.

If you know someone you'd like to nominate as a Gold Medal Giver, send their name and where they volunteer in an e-mail to NBC 6's Jade Cunningham at jcunningham@ktalnews.tv
