A Shreveport soldier reaches out to his hometown from overseas after receiving a care package from a local military support group.
Shreveport native and Woodlawn High School graduate Sgt. Kendrick Daniels called home from a secure location in the Middle East after receiving food and other essentials from right hear in Shreveport.
The local chapter of Operation: Support Our Troops sends care packages to our men and women in uniform stationed in remote areas all over the world.
Those packages are handed out randomly, but in an amazing coincidence, Sgt. Daniels happened to get one, and says it was like getting a little taste of home.
Shreveport Chairman Shirley Olivieri-Mathies says Daniels called her, "Expressing his thanks, how much it meant to get the boxes from Shreveport people, and he just wanted to put a face to a name, just personally take time to thank me for all that our chapter sent to them for the Christmas holiday."
The local chapter of Operation Support Our Troops has been sending care packages four times a year since 2002.
