Louisiana State Exhibit Museum to present Project Talent student art exhibit

Secretary of State Tom Schedler and the Friends of Louisiana State Exhibit Museum announce the opening of an exhibit of original artworks, "Project Talent", by Caddo Parish High School students. 

A reception honoring artists and their teachers will take place between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, May 10.  Light refreshments will be served.

In 1975, the Caddo Parish School System developed "Project Talent" as an enrichment program for those high school students who excel in the visual arts. This after-school program is geared to those students who plan to pursue some form of art as a career choice. "Project Talent" meets weekly in a studio setting and is taught by Shirlene Alexander and Marabella Dunn.

This year's exhibit will feature 24 student artists, including Erin Carson, Caroline Copeland, Karla Debrae, Hope Dorsett, Emily Edwards, Austin Elder, Kaylee Hamann, Camellia Jiles, Chlese Jiles, Morgan Kilpatrick, Caroline Kinder, Julia Luraguiz, Robin Mailed, Zoe Mangum-Herriage, Jacob Nixon, Madeline O'Rear, Reagan Pearson, Emmaline Rice, Kayla Smith, Lauren Smith, Isabella Van Savage and Jessica Sebren.

Museum curator Nita Cole said, "Mrs. Alexander and Mrs. Dunn are gifted teachers, as well as inspired artists.We are excited about giving students the opportunity to display their work in a museum setting. The show will offer a variety of paintings on canvas and paper in acrylic and oils."

The "Project Talent" Student Art exhibit will be on display on the West Wing gallery until May 23.

The public is invited to view the exhibit during regular museum hours: 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The museum is located at 3015 Greenwood Rd. between Hearne and Jewella.
