Maggie Lee Henson Celebration of Caring

The annual Celebration, which has been in existence for over a decade, was recently (2010) named in honor of Maggie Lee Henson, one of two young people who died after a bus taking youth from First Baptist Church Shreveport to a summer camp crashed in 2009.

The 2014 Maggie Lee Henson Celebration of Caring was back at the Red River District (under the Texas Street Bridge in downtown Shreveport). The annual Community Renewal event celebrates our common bond of caring and is sponsored by Red Ball Oxygen. This year's Celebration of Caring was Saturday morning. Activities included food and refreshments, dancing, live music, games for children, face-painting and much more.

One of the highlights of the Celebration is the annual Angel Award. The award recognizes someone from the community who "exemplifies a caring nature by caring for and serving others in their personal lives." This person is to be local in that we are celebrating Shreveport-Bossier and the surrounding community as a "Caring Community," and we want that person to be present to accept the award at the Celebration.

This years winner was 16 year-old Isacc Mcfarland
