A family fight leads to a police chase and standoff in the Cedar Grove neighborhood.

According to the girlfriend of 22 year-old Jeffrey Grantham, the couple got into an argument Thursday evening.

The girlfriend's grandmother called police after hearing the commotion inside the home on Wyngate Boulevard.

Then, according to police, when officers got to the home Grantham fought with a police officer before taking off in his SUV.

Grantham eventually crashed it in a ditch off of East 79th Street.

A female officer also crashed her cruiser while crashing Grantham, but investigators say she’s alright.

After crashing, investigators say Grantham jumped out, ran down the street barefoot, then jumped on the roof of a home in the 200 block of East 80th Street.

"We have reason to believe that he is under the influence of some type of narcotic," says Cpl. Marcus Hines, Public Information Officer with Shreveport Police.

Shreveport Police officers and a team of four hostage negotiators blocked off the area, while working to get Grantham off the roof.

That was around 7:00 p.m. Grantham stayed on the roof for about two hours, threatening to hurt himself. But he also asked for food and even smoked a cigarette.

Neighbors were asked to leave their homes until Grantham came off the roof.

He requested food and cigarettes while on the roof.

At this hour police say Grantham will face charges for the incident, but no word on which charges.

"We believe that the individual has been dealt with before for psychiatric evaluation," says Cpl. Hines.
