Money troubles nearly forced him out of the race for Shreveport Mayor. Today, candidate Sam Jenkins sets the record straight.
Right off the bat, Jenkins said that his purpose for coming in front of the cameras today was to be an open book and lay it all out for the public to know exactly where he stands.
“I don’t think my constituents would elect me time and time again," Jenkins responded to whether he was fit for the role of Mayor.
Jenkins said these age-old issues that have surfaced are an obvious attempt by political insiders to get him out of the 2014 Mayoral race.
He said like many families in Shreveport, his has succumbed to some financial challenges and it’s this fact that he said will help him serve the people better.
"You have people who have been through a lot of situations out here,” Jenkins said. “They need a mayor who can understand that just because you made some mistake in your life does not mean that you should not have an opportunity to lead a fulfilling life and be able to make some contributions to our community."
Jenkins said the service he has given the city as an elected official should speak for itself. He added that he’s done nothing to breach the public trust.
He also said that all of his financial woes are taken care of and that he is on a payment plan and is in good standing.
