Each one wants to be your next mayor.

Tonight, candidates for Shreveport Mayor gathered to answer questions and share their visions for the city.

But, only three of the seven mayoral candidates showed up; Ollie Tyler, Sam Jenkins and Victoria Provenza.

Each candidate introduced themselves and was given two minutes to answer each question.

The first question was to rate the city of Shreveport on a scale of one to ten; one being wonderful and ten being not so wonderful.

Ollie Tyler and Victoria Provenza both rated the city a six out of ten. Sam Jenkins gave it a 7.5,

All the candidates were also asked to explain what they’ll do to improve that number.

“We want to see our streets fixed, we want to make sure that our city is clean,” Tyler said. “We want to make sure that our small businesses are growing and that our large businesses enhanced and that we're attracting businesses to our city.

Provenza is a Shreveport native and Centenary College graduate.

“We have an aggressive economic plan,” she said. “To grow our community from within, build our companies that are here, but to also be extremely innovative in bringing other industries to town.

Sam Jenkins agreed with Provenza that economic development is vital.

“We need someone that will daily manage that effort,” Jenkins said. “My first assignment to an economic development director will be jobs.”

Each member of the public who came tonight received an index card to write down whatever question they wanted to ask of the candidates.

Some of the issues they asked about were improving streets, pay raises for city employees and safety in Shreveport neighborhoods.

The November 4 election is right around the corner and all seven candidates are vying for one seat.

The three candidates, Tyler, Jenkins and Provenza all said no matter who is elected Shreveport Mayor; they will fully support them and their vision for improving the city.
