Missing National Guardsman found in Red River

Desmond Desdunes was found in the Red River around 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
Boaters locate the body of a missing Louisiana National Guardsman in the Red River Saturday. Desmond Desdunes, 22, of Shreveport, had been missing since Thursday night, after he jumped off a railroad bridge into the Red River.

The discovery happened around 10:30 p.m. The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office said several people riding in a boat spotted his body floating down the middle of the river, about 100 yards from the Sheriff's OMarine Unit Office at the Stoner Boat Launch.

Desdunes jumped in the river with his fellow Guardsman, Joshua Miller, 19. Miller has been been given a summons for trespassing.

According to Capt. Alan Davidson, Miller jumped off the bridge before. On Thursday, authorities said Miller jumped first and then encouraged Desdunes to jump. Both were swimming to shore when Desdunes ran out of energy. Miller told authorities he tried to pull him out of the water, and then he started to succumb to the current. When Miller made it to the shore, he heard Desdunes hollering for help. He turned around and Desdunes was gone.  Davidson said Desdunes family is relieved their loved one was found.
