Only on NBC 6: Bossier City military mom surprises daughter in class

It's a surprise one little girl will always remember.
It's a surprise one Bossier City student will always remember. After months overseas, her military mom comes home.

Senior airman Vanna Maitland has spent seven months away from her family.

"It's been stressful,” says Maitland.

Maitland’s daughter, Jalecia Jackson, is in 1st grade at Sun City Elementary.

Jalecia had no idea that mommy was going to walk through her classroom door on Monday.

With a long embrace and both mother and daughter tearing up, Maitland says this is the reaction that she hoped for.

"It was very emotional, but I was very excited, too excited,” says Maitland. “I cried as soon as I seen her."

Jalecia says she was very surprised and this is the first thing she wants to do: "Go to Chuck E. Cheese.”

"We're going to Chuck E. Cheese, shopping, the boardwalk, everything," says Maitland.

Maitland says that was her last trip overseas, and she'll remain stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base.
