It's that time of year again!
Mardi Gras parades are easily considered one of Shreveport-Bossier's biggest attractions and boosts for the local economy.
According to the tourism bureau, the parades get larger each and every year. A new economic impact study is being conducted this parade season to see exactly how much money goes around.
The last study back in 2008 took into account the two largest parades; Krewe of Gemini and Krewe of Centaur. Those two events generated more than $17 million in direct revenue from out of town visitors. Overnight guests were responsible for 80% of that $17 million with daytrippers accounting for 20%.
Visitors spend money not only on food, drinks, and hotel stays, but on plenty of items that make Mardi Gras in Shreveport unique from local businesses.
