For years, people in South Shreveport have been pushing for a school.
“The community saw a huge need for it,” said Ann Maxey with the Montessori School.
The Montessori School announced plans back on July 24 to open a second location in Provenance.
“This area of town has grown quite a bit recently. A lot of neighborhoods are popping up out here in South Shreveport and it’s convenient,” Maxey said.
And, prospective parents agree.
“It’s difficult as a working parent to necessarily make it to the other location, so I think it’s wonderful that they’re offering this location,” Sarah Baker said. It’s a great option for us.”
Baker has a one-year old child and just recently moved to the Provenance neighborhood. She said she thinks the Montessori school would be a good fit
“An earlier start kids can get, the better,” Baker said.
Torri Palms-Moore is on the Montessori School Board. She attended Montessori when she was growing up. Now, her two children are following in her footsteps.
“I understand the importance of education,” Palms-Moore said. “These skills need to be honed in on and cemented very early.”
Maxey said their focus right now is to have the Provenance enrolled kids go to the main campus once they hit first grade.
She also said construction is set to begin in October or November, and they expect the new Montessori school to be open for the 2015 school year.
