SHREVEPORT -- Northwestern State’s football games this fall will again be broadcast in the Shreveport-Bossier City market on News Radio 710 KEEL, while NSU basketball has a new northwest Louisiana home on Sports Talk 100.7 FM and KRMD AM, said NSU director of athletics Greg Burke Wednesday.
Making the announcement at the annual Duck Commander Independence Bowl/NSU Kickoff Luncheon at Superior’s Steakhouse in Shreveport, Burke said NSU was proud to continue its association with KEEL for coverage of Demon football again in 2014.
“The KEEL brand is a staple of broadcasting not only in Shreveport-Bossier but across our region and we’re very pleased to continue our partnership for Demon football coverage,” he said. “We know our supporters and sports fans have enjoyed the broadcasts on KEEL and we’ve certainly appreciated the hard work that the staff at Townsquare Media puts in covering NSU athletics and bringing our games to listeners reaching far beyond northwest Louisiana.”
The new partnership for enhanced basketball coverage with Sports Talk 100.7 FM and KRMD AM provides expanded promotional opportunities for NSU athletics, said Burke, while associating with a longtime leader in sports and news talk in the Shreveport-Bossier market.
“We’re very pleased to partner with Cumulus Broadcasting to provide a highly-respected home for NSU basketball broadcasts this season and hopefully for many years to come, along with NSU athletics greatly benefitting from the very strong promotional platforms offered by Sports Talk 100.7 FM and KRMD AM throughout the year,” he said.
The agreement includes Demon Sports Network broadcast coverage of Demon and Lady Demon basketball. The Demons, a perennial Southland Conference championship contender, are coached by Bossier City native Mike McConathy, the winningest college basketball coach in state history, and feature standout junior guard Jalan West of Bossier City. The Lady Demons are coming off a 21-win season in 2013-14 that carried them to the Southland Conference Tournament championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance under second-year coaches Brooke and Scott Stoehr.
“We have exciting basketball programs with very recent NCAA Tournament experience, with the Demons in March Madness in 2013 and the Lady Demons going to the ‘Big Dance’ just last season,” said Burke. “Excitement around NSU basketball is as high as it’s ever been and so we are pleased to enhance our basketball broadcast exposure in the Shreveport-Bossier area by partnering with Sports Talk 100.7 FM and KRMD AM.”
The Demon football season begins next Thursday night, Aug. 28, with a 6 p.m. kickoff at Turpin Stadium against Missouri State. The Demon Sports Network pregame coverage begins at 5:30, flagshipped by 100.7 FM KZBL in Natchitoches.
Basketball seasons for the NSU teams tip off in early November and will continue well into March 2015.
