On Thursday the NSU Department of Military Science's ROTC Program and its alumni arm, the Demon Regiment, honored Gay during the university's first home game.

Gay is a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam.  He served with the Tuskegee Airmen as an aircraft mechanic on B-25s, P-51s and the AT-6.  During the Korean War, he was a tank crewman in combat.

In Vietnam, Gay again fought with armor units.  His awards include the Bronze Star and the Meritorious Service Medal, as well as campaign ribbons for WWII, Korea and Vietnam.

Fred Terasa and Lt. Col. Macky Underwood presented Gay with coins of excellence for his service, a commemorative coin for Demon Regiment members.  The coin was used for the coin toss prior to kick-off.

Assistant Director of Alumni and Development Vanner Erikson said, "This marks the beginning of a new tradition for us. During each home football game, we will recognize a veteran for his or her selfless service to our nation and the commemorative coin will be used for the coin toss."
