RICHARDSON, Texas – Beginning the week with two American Southwest Conference Players of the Week in Shelby Parker and Lacey Lindsey, East Texas Baptist University continues to gain awards for the team. It is the second week in a row that ETBU has had a conference player of the week and the third for a player of the week.
Parker became ETBU’s all-time strike outs leader with 320 in her career with 11 strikeouts on Saturday. She finished the week with a 3-0 record and 25 strikeouts with a 1.17 ERA. She recorded 22 strikeouts in two appearances against LeTourneau and a finished the weekend with a four-hit shutout win. In the 14 innings pitched in the ASC series she retired the side six times. This is her second award of the year as two weeks ago she was named the NFCA National Pitcher of the Week.
Lindsey earns her first career award as the hitter of the week batting .538 in five games with three home runs in which one was a grand slam, and had a 1.308 slugging percentage and eight RBI. In the ASC series against LeTourneau she batted .714 with six RBI and had a home run in each game. In 14 plate appearances she did not strike out and she scored seven of the 11 times she made it on base. In the series against Trinity she recorded a double and had two RBI.
ETBU is currently 17-1 and ranked sixth in the latest NFCA National Poll. They will be tested this week as they travel to Tyler, Texas, on Tuesday and Wednesday for a three-game ASC series vs. #10 Texas-Tyler and then host a two-game series with #11 Linfield on Saturday in Marshall.
