Sci-port teams up with the LSU Health Shreveport Office of Multicultural Affairs using a popular game show to teach math and science to elementary students.
Nearly 60 students take part in this year's Jeopardy game and other hands-on activities.
The theme is "the organization of life."
The students study how the human body works, the naming of living things, and ecosystems.
"We actually select students in kindergarten, and they come back every year for science academy until they're in sixth grade. So, we get to see these children grow and hopefully learn to love science along the way," says Sci-Port Education Coordinator Donna Vishnefski.
The science academy is part of the Office of Multicultural Affairs "Pipeline Program," which recruits underrepresented minorities and disadvantaged students for the schools of medicine, graduate studies, and allied health professions.
