Shreveport Police identify man killed in crash

Authorities investigate a fatal crash in north Shreveport.
Authorities investigate a fatal crash in north Shreveport.

The accident happened Tuesday night, just after 9:00pm.

Shreveport Police were sent to a single vehicle crash along the 4600 block of North Market Street.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found 45-year-old, Howard Dupont Jr, with life-threatening injuries.

He apparently had lost control of his 2000 model, Nissan pickup truck, which then left the roadway and hit a guardrail in the median.

Dupont, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead when he arrived at University Health Medical center.

Information and evidence found at the scene of the accident suggests Dupont was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

No exact cause of the accident is known at this time, and remains under investigation.

Shreveport Police wish to remind motorists of the importance of seat belt use.

Always make sure that children are buckled or in the proper child restraints at all times.

While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant's chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury.

Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant to be properly restrained at all times while in a vehicle.
