Students enjoy snow day in Natchitoches

It’s a sight you don't see often in Natchitoches, or Louisiana in general: snow covering the ground.
It’s a sight you don't see often in Natchitoches, or Louisiana in general: snow covering the ground.

"It's been kind of a festive atmosphere,” says Kristine Coreil. “Usually, January is a slow month for Natchitoches, so we're having a good time in the snow."

Since school is out, Coreil is making sure her children and their friends are learning the art of sledding.

"Well, we go on our belly, and you can see yourself going down and you can like…sometimes the snow gets all in your face," Lauren Mathews.

"It's been really fun, because we're not used to all this snow," says Colin Henson.

"Well, I was just really excited, because it doesn't snow that often here, but to get snow twice in one week, that's--that's pretty big for Natchitoches," says Zoe Thompson.

People also braved the temperatures to get on the road.

"Well, I live out of town a little ways, so I've got to be able to get  home and you know get back to work, if I can get into work each day,” says Lanette Nichols. “I don't know what tomorrow is going to be like now."

David Warfield is from Detroit, and says what he's seeing on his windshield is nothing compared to what's going on back home.

"[A] principle friend of mine called me Sunday, it was three-below and 18 inches of snow, so yeah, this is manageable," says Warfield.

But for those who aren't used to the snow, this day has been pretty unique.
