Just returning from spring break, students at C.E. Byrd High School are mourning the loss of a fellow classmate.

Saturday afternoon, 16 year-old Divorious Magee died from injuries he received during a crash.

Police say Magee was riding his bike near E. 79th and Thornhill, when he ran a stop sign and got hit by a car.

Today counselors at Byrd were prepared to talk to students.

"It's a big loss that happens, often times without notice,” says Melinda Kay, Guidance and Counseling Specialist for Caddo Parish Schools. “We know that the grieving is especially hard, and it affects the community and school is a community."

The driver of the car, Titania Johnson, was ticketed for not having a valid driver's license.

Police say the crash is still under investigation.
