Tips on how to eat better and manage your diabetes

The City of Texarkana, Texas, the Parks and Recreation Dept. and the Texarkana-Bowie Co. Family Health Center are partnering to offer a healthy living/diabetes self-management and education series.

The class, which runs from June 10 through July 8, is open to all adults age 18 and older who are diagnosed or at risk for developing Type 2 Diabetes, has a family history of diabetes, has a history of hypertension, high cholesterol or heart disease, are overweight or obese, or who are interested in healthy lifestyle options.

The course is limited to 15 participants and registration will close on at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 5.

The class will be taught by Texarkana-Bowie County Health Center public educator and registered nurse, Rebecca Sanford. 

Sanford said, "This class will give residents an opportunity to learn the basics of heart disease and diabetes risk factors. We'll discuss the basics of healthy eating, and healthy cooking options."

This series of group classes will meet between 10:30 a.m. and noon on Tuesdays at the Southwest Center on 3222 W. 7th St.
