Shreveport Police have arrested a local man following an early morning shooting at a west Shreveport apartment home.
Torrance Bedford Jr., of the 9200 block of Aragon Drive in Shreveport, was taken into custody today after he surrendered to the Shreveport police following the shooting.
Just after midnight today (August 23, 2014), SPD officers were dispatched to Willis-Knighton Medical Center located in the 2600 block of Greenwood Road relative to a man who had been shot. Upon their arrival, officers learned Jamarian Peoples had been shot multiple times in the upper body.
Peoples was transported from Willis-Knighton to University Health Medical Center, where following surgery, he was lasted listed in serious but stable condition. Late this morning, the hospital upgraded his condition to fair.
Shreveport Police Violent Crimes detectives and Crime Scene personnel were advised of the shooting and responded to the scene. Preliminary information gathered during the investigation revealed Peoples was inside the apartment he shared with his girlfriend. Reportedly, when the woman arrived home, she was accompanied by another male friend.
A subsequent dispute between Peoples and the man, identified as 22-year-old Bedford Jr. ensued.
During the dispute, Bedford reportedly produced a handgun, shooting Peoples multiple times.
Bedford fled the scene immediately following the shooting. Hours after the incident, Bedford arrived at Shreveport Police headquarters where he surrendered to authorities. A subsequent investigation by detectives was conducted, leading to Bedford’s arrest.
He was booked into the Shreveport City Jail where he is charged with a single count of Attempted Second Degree Murder.
