The local Betty and Leonard Phillips Deaf Action Center held its annual Las Vegas fundraiser Saturday. It was held at the Wine Country Bistro and Bottle Shop on Line Avenue.
Organizers hope to raise more than $300,000. They said the fundraiser helps fund operations for two years.
The center helps the deaf community by providing interpreters, and its staff teaches families sign language. The interpreters assist clients during doctor visits, and even on the job.
Board members believe the center is the reason why many move to the ArkLaTex. The center has four interpreters and serves about 1800 people.
