DHH confirms 3rd West Nile virus death

The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals announced Friday that a third person has died from the West Nile virus.

DHH officials say the death occurred in Rapides Parish.  They have also confirmed three new cases of West Nile virus this week bringing this year's total number of cases to 51.

The new infections include two cases of neuroinvasive disease in Lafayette Parish and one case of neuroinvasive in Ouachita Parish.

This year, Ouachita Parish has reported 14 cases of neuroinvasive disease, Lafayette Parish has 9 cases of neuroinvasive disease, Caldwell and Rapides parishes each have 3 neuroinvasive disease cases and Calcasieu, Livingston and St. Tammany parishes each have 1 case of neuroinvasive disease.
