Dog park decision delayed again

There's another delay in Shreveport's dog park discussions. Mayor Cedric Glover believes the park isn't feasible and wants city council to repeal all dog park legislation.

A decision on the dog park won't be made until the next city council meeting, but The Dog Park Alliance says they've already waited long enough.

Dan Keele says, “We've kind of gotten the mushroom treatment. We've been kept in the dark and fed bull."

Keele is The Dog Park Alliance's attorney. He was hoping a decision about the future of a dog park in Shreveport would be made Tuesday night. The Mayor Glover told council he needed more time.

”It has been expressed to me there still is a desire for there to be some considerable discussion."

Keel says the mayor planned to reverse all dog park legislation. He says another delay is unacceptable.

We've been looking for an opportunity to discuss with an eye toward action. We want to get something done, something specific."

The mayor wants to talk with all parties involved before the council votes.

“Give us a chance to be able to continue to be able to work with you all to answer these questions and to further engage in dialogue and have a perspective to offer."

Keele says the alliance is open to more talks.

"If he really wants to sit down and come up with another plan that meets his concerns we're willing to do that."

The mayor's biggest concern is the cost of the park. The Dog Park Alliance has offered up an alternate location at Stoner Avenue's Recreation Center. But Keele wants to make it clear they haven't abandoned their original plan at Hamel's Park.

"Something on the riverfront is the priority and that's good for the citizens of Shreveport."

Mayor Cedric Glover has already spent more than $35,000 on attorney's fees.
