Emergency drill forces evacuation on school campus

All buildings have been evacuated and remain closed on the Texas A&M campus in Texarkana.
All buildings have been evacuated and remain closed on the Texas A&M campus in Texarkana as part of an emergency drill.

The drill, which was conducted around 2 p.m. Monday, shut down the university to check response times of emergency crews.

Texas A&M Texarkana Public Information Officer Bob Bruggeman said students and faculty were not informed of the drill so that the situation could be as real as possible so all the results would be accurate if a real emergency occurred.

Here are some of the messages that were posted on the university's website during the emergency drill:

3:23PM Update: Texas A&M-Texarkana remains closed and all buildings have been evacuated as emergency personnel search buildings in response to a bomb threat. Please check back frequently for more updates.

2:03PM: There is an emergency situation underway at the A&M-Texarkana campus. The campus is closed until further notice. Evacuation of the campus is underway and classes are cancelled until further notice. Faculty, staff and students are to report to First Baptist Church on Moores Lane immediately. Notice will be given when the campus re-opens and classes resume. Stay tuned for updates.
